Sindh declares public holiday on May 1

According to a notification issued by the provincial government, the holiday will be observed in all government offices, as well as autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils operating under the Sindh government.

However, the notification clearly states that essential services will continue to function without interruption during the holiday. The provincial government also confirmed that all educational institutions across Sindh, including schools, colleges, and universities, will remain closed on this occasion.

Labour Day, also known as May Day, is observed worldwide on May 1 every year to show solidarity with workers and highlight the importance of labour rights.

The day is dedicated to recognising the contributions of the working class and raising awareness about their rights and working conditions. It also aims to promote better protection for workers and prevent exploitation in industrial and labour sectors.

The announcement places a strong focus on workers’ rights as Sindh joins the global observance of Labour Day with a province-wide public holiday.
