Sindh has reported three new confirmed cases of mpox, taking the provincial tally to 40, including 13 cases from Karachi. PCR tests conducted at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital in NIPA confirmed the virus in the patients, while another suspected case is under review with test results still awaited.

Father-daughter among new patients

Two of the confirmed patients are a father and daughter from interior Sindh, while the third is a 46-year-old resident of Karachi's Federal B Area. Health officials said the situation would become clearer once results for the suspected case are received.

What is mpox and its symptoms

Mpox is a viral disease from the same family as smallpox. Common symptoms include fever, headache, body aches, fatigue, rash, and painful or itchy lesions.

Some patients may also develop swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, or groin, with rashes appearing on the face, hands, feet, mouth, and throat.

Symptoms may take weeks to appear

In some cases, patients may not show noticeable symptoms before lesions develop. Symptoms can take up to 21 days to appear after exposure to the virus, health officials noted.
