Sindh announces new bus routes to improve public transport
The Sindh government has decided to introduce exclusive bus routes under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and launch a new People’s Bus Service route connecting Larkana and Qambar to improve public transport across the province.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department, chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. Officials reviewed several ongoing and upcoming transport projects, including electric buses, EV taxis, double-decker buses, and the Green Line and Orange Line services.
Under the PPP model, modern air-conditioned electric buses will operate on dedicated routes. These routes will be offered to private investors through a competitive bidding process to improve transport services while encouraging private sector investment.
Sharjeel Inam Memon directed officials to launch the Larkana-Qambar People’s Bus Service as soon as possible. He said the new route would provide better travel facilities and help boost economic activity between the two districts.
Officials also informed the meeting that work on the EV taxi project is progressing, with consultations continuing with relevant stakeholders. The minister said an environmentally friendly EV taxi service would soon be launched in Karachi.

The meeting was informed that daily ridership on the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service has increased from 50,000 to 81,000 passengers. Meanwhile, daily ridership on the Orange Line has risen from 1,800 to 9,800 passengers, reflecting growing public confidence in mass transit services.
Sharjeel Inam Memon also directed authorities to take strict action against the misuse of Pink electric scooters. He warned that unauthorised users would face legal action and that scooters being used by men or modified to conceal their original colour would be confiscated.
These initiatives are part of the Sindh government’s broader plan to improve public transportation, promote environmentally friendly travel, and expand modern transport services across the province.
