Sindh announces Aug 4 holiday for all public and private schools

Official notification issued

According to the notification issued on July 31, the decision was taken following the approval of the Steering Committee on Education.

The notification confirmed that colleges will remain closed on August 4, which falls on 20 Safar 1448 AH.

Authorities said the decision applies to all educational institutions operating under the administrative control of the College Education Department across Sindh.

Holiday applies to all government and private colleges

The department clarified that the holiday will be observed by both public and private colleges across the province. Officials said every institution operating under the administrative control of the College Education Department must comply with the notification.

Students enrolled in government and private colleges have been advised to take note of the announced holiday. The department said regular academic activities will resume after the holiday unless another notification is issued.

Authorities are directed to ensure implementation

The College Education Department has instructed the Director General of Colleges, Sindh, regional directors, and other relevant officials to circulate the notification without delay. Officials have also been directed to ensure that all public and private colleges receive the instructions and implement the holiday across the province.

The department said timely communication would help avoid confusion among students, teachers, and college administrations. Authorities have been asked to monitor compliance with the official notification.

Chehlum observed across Pakistan

Chehlum marks the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (R.A.) and is observed by Muslims across Pakistan and in many other countries. Religious gatherings, processions, and prayers are held to pay tribute to Imam Hussain (R.A.) and commemorate the sacrifices made at the Battle of Karbala.

Provincial governments often announce public holidays and implement special security and traffic arrangements to facilitate religious events. Officials also coordinate with local administrations to help ensure public safety during the observance.

Educational institutions follow the official calendar

Educational institutions in Sindh observe holidays according to the academic calendar and official notifications issued by the provincial government. Officials said such decisions are made after consultation with the relevant authorities and the Steering Committee on Education.

The department encouraged students and parents to rely only on official announcements regarding holidays and academic schedules. College administrations have also been advised to inform students through their official communication channels.

Students advised to stay updated

Students have been advised to stay in contact with their respective colleges for updates regarding classes or examinations. Officials said no changes have been announced to the academic calendar other than the notified holiday.

Parents have also been encouraged to verify information through official notifications instead of relying on unverified social media posts. The department said any future changes, if required, will be communicated through official channels.

Government reiterates implementation of notification

The Sindh College Education Department has reiterated that the holiday applies to all colleges under its administrative control. Officials said all concerned authorities have been instructed to ensure the notification is implemented across the province.

The department added that colleges should strictly follow the official directions issued for the observance of the Chehlum holiday. Authorities said the academic schedule will resume as normal after the holiday unless a new notification is issued.
