Sialkot electric bus service to start this month with 10 buses on major routes
The Punjab government is set to launch its electric bus service in Sialkot later this month, marking another step in its plan to expand modern and environmentally friendly public transport across the province.
Officials said the first phase will introduce 10 electric buses operating on two key routes. Four buses will run between Sialkot and Daska, while six buses will serve the Sialkot-Pasrur route, improving daily travel for thousands of commuters.
Authorities have completed the installation of two charging stations for the new fleet, while 46 bus shelters have been established across the district. Teams from the relevant department will soon inspect the routes, finalize bus stop locations, and complete geotagging before the service begins.
According to the District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA), the electric bus service is expected to benefit around 10,000 passengers every day by providing affordable, comfortable, and eco-friendly transportation.
The expansion is part of Punjab's wider clean transport initiative. So far, 400 electric buses are already operational across 18 districts of the province.
Officials also announced that by the end of this month, Sialkot, Chiniot, Layyah, and Okara will each receive 10 electric buses. Narowal, Vehari, Kasur, Lodhran, and Nankana Sahib are expected to receive 11 buses each before the end of July.
Looking ahead, the Punjab government plans to receive 488 more electric buses by the end of August, which will be distributed across additional districts to further strengthen public transport, reduce emissions, and encourage the use of clean energy across the province.
