SHC orders private schools to stop collecting Summer vacation sees in one payment
Separate deadlines for June and July fees
The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed private schools to inform parents about summer vacation fees in May. Schools must give parents until June 30 to pay June fees and until July 30 to pay July fees.
The court issued these directions while hearing a petition challenging the collection of school fees during summer holidays. The petition also raised concerns about the purchase of school books and uniforms.
Under the order, schools cannot ask parents to pay both months’ fees together in one payment. The separate deadlines are intended to give families more time to manage their household expenses.
Why did the matter reach the court?
During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer told the court that some private schools issue fee vouchers covering both June and July. This practice requires parents to pay the full amount at once.
The lawyer questioned the practice because regular educational activities remain suspended during summer vacations.
After hearing the arguments, the court restrained school administrations from demanding both months’ fees through a single payment request. It directed schools to follow separate deadlines for each month.
Government counsel and a representative of the Directorate of Private Institutions also appeared before the court during the proceedings.

School books and uniforms also under discussion
The court also considered complaints about the purchase of school books and uniforms. These expenses can add to the financial pressure on parents, particularly when schools set specific purchasing requirements.
To address the issue, the SHC directed the Directorate of Private Institutions and other concerned parties to hold a meeting within two weeks.
The meeting is intended to discuss the concerns and work towards a solution. The relevant authorities have been asked to address the matter in line with the court’s directions.
Petition disposed of after court orders
After issuing its directions, the Sindh High Court disposed of the petition.
The order requires private schools to provide separate payment deadlines for June and July summer vacation fees instead of asking parents to pay both months together.
Parents should review fee notices issued by their children’s schools and check the applicable payment dates. They should also follow any further instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
