Sandal Express resumes service after 8-year suspension
Citizens welcome the return of Sandal Express
The restoration of the Sandal Express was marked by ceremonies at Jhang and Sargodha railway stations. A large number of citizens gathered at the stations to welcome the return of the service after its long suspension.
Passengers and residents expressed hope that the restored train would make travel easier and provide a more economical alternative to road transport. The revival of the service is particularly important for commuters who regularly travel between cities and towns along the route.
Railway minister highlights public service efforts
Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi said the restoration of the Sandal Express reflected the government’s commitment to improving public services. He said the revival of suspended railway services was part of broader efforts to strengthen connectivity and improve facilities for passengers.
According to the minister, restoring train services can help provide people with more convenient and affordable travel options. The government is working to improve railway operations and bring previously suspended services back into operation where possible.
Jhang Railway Station upgraded
During the ceremony, Hanif Abbasi also inaugurated the upgraded Jhang Railway Station. The station’s renovation was funded by Dr Mohazam Waheed Sheikh, administrator of Red Crescent Hospital Jhang and a local businessman.
The contribution was aimed at improving public facilities and providing better services for railway passengers in the city. The upgraded station is expected to improve the experience of passengers using the railway service from Jhang.
Restored rail link to benefit passengers
The return of the Sandal Express restores an important connection between Sargodha and Multan. The train will also benefit passengers travelling through Jhang and other districts along the route.

Rail travel is often considered a lower-cost option for people making long-distance journeys, particularly for regular commuters and families. The restored service could therefore reduce dependence on road transport and give passengers another option for travelling between cities.
Revival of suspended train services continues
The restoration of the Sandal Express comes as Pakistan Railways continues its efforts to improve operations and revive suspended passenger services. The return of previously discontinued trains can help expand the railway network and improve access for communities along established routes.
For passengers, the availability of additional train services may mean more travel options and better connectivity. However, the long-term success of restored services will depend on regular operations, punctuality, and continued improvements in passenger facilities.
