Routes announced for 14 more electric buses in Sahiwal
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that 14 more electric buses will soon be provided to Sahiwal, adding to the city’s growing public transport network.
The announcement came during a meeting between the chief minister and Sahiwal’s members of the provincial assembly. Development projects, public facilities and transport services in the city were discussed during the meeting.
The move comes as Punjab expands its electric bus service across the province. The government has approved 1,500 electric buses for 91 tehsils, with Sahiwal’s four tehsils allocated 87 buses under the broader expansion plan.

Officials say 612 electric buses are already operating in different districts of Punjab, while additional buses are being added to several cities. The provincial government aims to have 3,000 electric buses operational across Punjab by June 2027.

Members of the provincial assembly praised the development projects in Sahiwal, including city beautification, drainage and sewage schemes. They also welcomed the establishment of 10 Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence in the Sahiwal division.

She said the Punjab government was taking development beyond major cities and bringing projects to villages. She added that the Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence would provide children from different economic backgrounds with equal opportunities and education standards comparable to leading private schools.
