(Web Desk): Rawalpindi road projects are set to reshape city travel as authorities approve new bypasses and link roads to ease traffic pressure.

Residents of Rawalpindi are expected to benefit from a major infrastructure push. The district administration and the Rawalpindi Development Authority have decided to launch several road projects aimed at reducing congestion across key routes.

Officials say the plan is designed to make travel easier and faster. It also aims to convert major intersections into signal-free corridors to improve traffic flow throughout the city.

One of the proposed projects focuses on widening and rebuilding Peshawar Road from Chohar Chowk to Misrial Chowk. The project is expected to improve movement between the motorway and cantonment areas.

Another important scheme is the construction of a bypass from Chohar Depot to Dhoke Gujran. Authorities believe this route will divert heavy traffic away from Peshawar Road and reduce pressure on entry points into the city.

A new link road between Bhatta Chowk and Qabristan Chowk is also planned. The road will help residents of Chakrra, Girja Road and nearby localities reach Saddar and other areas more conveniently.

Officials are also planning a road connecting Dhamial with 22 Number Road in Saddar. The project is expected to provide a faster and more direct route for people living in Adiala and Dhamial.

Meanwhile, the recently completed Kachehri Chowk project, now known as Maarka-e-Haq Square, has already become operational. With flyovers and underpasses in place, traffic from Murree Road and Adiala Road is now moving without signals.

Work on the Rawalpindi Ring Road has also reached an advanced stage. Around 85 percent of the project has been completed, and authorities hope to open it for traffic by mid-June 2026.

The Ring Road is expected to improve connectivity for areas including Thalian and Chak Beli Khan. Residents of these areas could soon enjoy quicker access to different parts of the region.

In another major proposal, three new underpasses have been suggested along Peshawar Road. These underpasses would be built at Cheering Cross, Army Graveyard Chowk and nearby locations to create a signal-free corridor similar to Murree Road.

Once completed, these projects are expected to significantly reduce traffic jams across Rawalpindi. Travel times could be cut by more than half on some of the city’s busiest routes.

These projects show that authorities are focusing on long-term traffic solutions instead of short-term fixes. Better roads and signal-free corridors could improve daily life for thousands of commuters.

If construction remains on schedule, Rawalpindi may see one of its biggest traffic improvements in recent years. Faster travel and better connectivity could also support future business and residential growth.
