The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has directed a citizen to appear before the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Board after hearing a petition challenging the blocking of his Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC).

The case was heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmad and Justice Inamullah Khan. The petitioner, identified as Quaid-e-Azam, argued through his lawyer that he is a businessman and has been facing serious financial and administrative difficulties since his CNIC was blocked.

The petitioner's counsel told the court that the blocked identity card had prevented his client from accessing essential services, including banking transactions, government offices and other legal and financial activities. He requested the court to direct NADRA to restore the CNIC immediately.

During the hearing, NADRA's Director Legal informed the court that the identity card had been blocked due to suspicious records and that the matter required verification under the authority's established legal procedures.

The official explained that such cases are reviewed by the NADRA Board, which examines the available evidence before making a final decision on whether an identity card should be restored or remain blocked.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court instructed the petitioner to appear before the NADRA Board with all relevant documents and evidence to support his claim.

The court further directed the board to hear the petitioner's case, examine the available record and decide the matter strictly in accordance with the law.

While disposing of the petition, the Peshawar High Court clarified that the petitioner would retain the right to seek further legal remedies if he remained dissatisfied with the board's decision after completing the prescribed legal process.
