(Web Desk): Punjab has announced 20,000 green tractors and higher subsidies to help farmers adopt modern agricultural machinery and boost crop production.

Punjab will provide 20,000 green tractors to farmers in the next fiscal year as the provincial government accelerates efforts to modernize agriculture and increase farm productivity.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the province has entered a new era of agricultural mechanization, with historic initiatives being launched to ensure farmers have access to modern machinery and technology.

According to official documents, under the current Green Tractor Scheme, subsidies of Rs 1 million per tractor were provided on 9,500 high-power tractors. In addition, 10,000 tractors ranging from 50 to 65 horsepower are being supplied to farmers with a subsidy of Rs 500,000 each.

The chief minister announced that in the next phase of the scheme, subsidies will be increased significantly. Farmers purchasing high-horsepower tractors will receive Rs 1.5 million per tractor, while subsidies for 50 to 65 horsepower tractors will rise to Rs 750,000.

For the first time in Punjab, an interest-free loan scheme of up to Rs 30 million has also been introduced for the purchase of 12 categories of high-tech agricultural machinery. Under this initiative, around 200 advanced combined harvesters have already been provided to farmers.

The government has also distributed 5,000 super seeders among rice growers to address environmental pollution caused by crop residue burning. These machines helped complete rice cultivation on 1.4 million acres. Another 5,000 super seeders will be distributed in the second phase.

Maryam Nawaz said modern machinery will reduce production costs, increase per-acre yields, and help small farmers access advanced farming methods through rental services.
