Punjab requests army deployment for Muharram security
The Punjab government has requested the deployment of Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel to strengthen security arrangements during Muharramul Haram and ensure the peaceful observance of religious activities across the province. According to officials, the Punjab Home Department has formally approached the Ministry of Interior, seeking support from the armed forces and Rangers to help maintain law and order during the sensitive period.
Sources said a total of 137 companies have been requested for deployment across 39 districts of Punjab. The request includes 61 companies of the Pakistan Army and 76 companies of the Rangers. Officials said security personnel will be deployed from the 1st to the 11th of Muharram to provide security for religious gatherings, majalis, and processions across the province.

The deployment plan has been prepared according to the security requirements of each district to ensure effective monitoring and a swift response to any potential security challenges. Authorities said special measures are being taken to maintain peace and ensure the safety of participants during Muharram events, which attract large numbers of people every year.
The Punjab government is also coordinating with law enforcement agencies and local administrations to implement a comprehensive security strategy during the religious month. Officials expressed hope that the additional support from the Army and Rangers would help ensure a peaceful atmosphere and the smooth conduct of Muharram observances throughout the province.
