LAHORE (Web Desk): Punjab reduces traffic fines across vehicles as new penalty structure is approved and sent for final approval in the assembly.

Punjab has introduced a major revision in traffic fines, reducing penalties for motorcycles, cars, rickshaws, and heavy vehicles across the province.

The plan was approved by the Chief Minister of Punjab after a summary was sent by the DIG Traffic Punjab. The proposal will now be presented in the Punjab Assembly for final approval.

According to the new structure, the fine for motorcycles has been reduced from Rs2,000 to Rs1,000, giving relief to daily commuters.

For rickshaws, the penalty has been cut from Rs3,000 to Rs1,000. However, serious violations will still carry a fine of Rs2,000.

For cars and jeeps, the fine has been reduced from Rs5,000 to Rs3,000. Officials clarified that overspeeding fines for motorcycles, rickshaws, and cars will remain unchanged.

For luxury vehicles of 2,000cc and above, the fine has been reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs10,000. In some cases, penalties for 2,000cc vehicles will now range between Rs2,000 and Rs10,000.

Fines for Mazda vans, coasters, and small passenger vans have also been reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs7,000.

Similarly, penalties for trucks, buses, and other heavy vehicles have been lowered from Rs20,000 to Rs10,000.

Officials said other fines for both light and heavy vehicles have also been reduced by up to Rs10,000 under the revised system.

The government said this step aims to ease financial pressure on drivers while keeping road safety regulations in place. However, the final decision will be taken after approval from the provincial assembly.
