Punjab records major surge in driving licence issuance
Punjab has recorded a significant increase in the issuance of driving licences across the province following directions from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
According to the Punjab Traffic Police spokesperson, more than 442,000 driving licences were issued during the past three weeks.
Learning and regular licences
More than 149,000 citizens obtained learning licences, while over 143,000 received regular driving licences during the period.
Meanwhile, around 146,000 citizens obtained learning, regular and international driving licences through the available services.
The figures show a sharp increase in demand for legal driving documentation as traffic authorities continue to encourage motorists to obtain valid licences.
Online services gain popularity
Traffic authorities said more than 1,000 citizens recovered lost driving licences, while over 3,000 people were issued international driving permits.

More than 73,000 citizens also benefited from online driving licence services, indicating growing use of digital facilities for licensing-related procedures.
Strict action against unlicensed drivers
DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir said driving a vehicle without a valid licence is a criminal offence.
He warned that unlicensed drivers could face heavy fines and strict legal action under traffic laws.
Traffic police are also working to increase public awareness about the importance of obtaining a valid driving licence and following road safety rules.
Authorities urge motorists to comply
Officials have encouraged citizens to complete the licensing process before driving on public roads.
The sharp rise in licence issuance comes as Punjab authorities continue efforts to improve traffic law compliance and promote safer driving practices across the province.
The increased use of online licensing services is also expected to make the process more convenient for citizens and reduce the need for repeated visits to licensing offices.
