Punjab Police removes 588 officers over corruption allegations

Punjab Police has launched a major disciplinary crackdown against officers accused of corruption and misconduct.

According to police sources, 588 personnel have faced action during the ongoing process.

Of these, 178 policemen were suspended, while 53 were dismissed from service.

The action was taken following reports and complaints concerning alleged misconduct within the police department. Officials said the measures were aimed at improving discipline and strengthening accountability among police personnel.

Intelligence reports and public complaints trigger action

Officials said the disciplinary action followed 185 intelligence reports and 69 complaints submitted by citizens. The reports raised concerns about the conduct of police personnel and their alleged involvement in illegal activities.

Lahore, Rahim Yar Khan among districts affected

Police personnel in several districts of Punjab have faced disciplinary action.

According to police sources, 56 officers were dealt with in Lahore.

Rahim Yar Khan recorded action against 37 policemen, while 30 personnel were targeted in Multan.

In Nankana Sahib, action was taken against 27 policemen, while 25 personnel faced action in Bhakkar.

The figures show that the disciplinary drive was not limited to a single district. Authorities are examining cases from different parts of the province as part of the broader accountability process.

Several ranks included in disciplinary action

The action involved police personnel from different ranks. According to the available details, 154 sub-inspectors were among those facing action. The list also included 123 assistant sub-inspectors and 52 head constables.

A total of 147 constables were also affected. In addition, 44 traffic police personnel were included in the disciplinary action. The figures indicate that the crackdown covered both senior and junior ranks within the police force.

Officers accused of helping drug traffickers

Police sources said some of the accused personnel were allegedly involved in facilitating drug traffickers.
