The Punjab School Education Department has issued a new directive covering class 9 board examination performance across all 36 districts. The policy introduces a two-part system aimed at rewarding strong performance while holding teachers and school heads accountable for weak results.

Under the new policy, teachers whose students achieve more than 80% marks will receive special badges and certificates of appreciation. Head teachers, teachers and students securing results between 60% and 79% will also receive appreciation certificates.

The move comes as Punjab authorities intensify efforts to improve public school results following concerns over poor class 9 performance. Earlier reports said around 2,200 government schools had recorded results of 20% or below, prompting warnings of strict action against poor-performing teachers.

Strict action over poor performance

The department has directed Chief Executive Officers of District Education Authorities to ensure disciplinary proceedings against head teachers and subject teachers where the pass rate falls below 20%.

Cases involving head teachers and BS-17 teachers will be referred to the relevant department. Officials must also submit departmental action reports to the Director of Public Instruction within 15 days.

The directive is part of a broader accountability drive designed to improve teaching standards and student performance across Punjab.
