Punjab Police has completed security arrangements for Independence Day, with more than 28,000 police officers and personnel assigned to protect celebrations and manage traffic across Punjab.

Punjab Inspector General Abdul Karim said more than 300 Independence Day events across the province will receive full security coverage. Police will closely monitor anti-state and criminal elements to prevent any untoward incident.

He said activities will be monitored through Safe Cities Authority cameras, while police deployed at interprovincial border checkpoints will remain alert against security threats.

The IGP directed Lahore’s CCPO, regional police officers, city police officers and district police officers to personally supervise security and traffic arrangements in their respective areas.

He also instructed police, Special Branch, Counter Terrorism Department, intelligence agencies and patrolling units to ensure effective security. Dolphin Squad, PERU and traffic police have also been directed to maintain strict vigilance.

Abdul Karim said there would be zero tolerance for hooliganism and harassment of women during Independence Day celebrations. Citizens were urged to celebrate within the law and maintain discipline.

According to the security plan, 306 Elite teams, 177 Quick Response Force teams and 911 motorcycle teams will remain deployed. A total of 829 police vehicles will also conduct patrols.

Authorities will use 128 walk-through gates and 1,122 metal detectors for security screening at important locations.

In Lahore, more than 8,000 personnel will perform security and traffic duties. Other major deployments include 3,515 personnel in Faisalabad, 3,075 in Gujranwala, 2,994 in Rawalpindi and 2,818 in Multan.
