The Punjab government has decided to add 2,000 electric buses to its public transport fleet during the next fiscal year. Officials say the move is designed to improve transport services and reduce environmental pollution.
According to proposals prepared by the Transport Department, transport-related projects worth more than Rs200 billion have been recommended for the upcoming fiscal year. A large share of this funding will support the expansion of electric transport in different cities.
The government has also included several major infrastructure projects in its future plans. These include the Lahore-Rawalpindi fast train, the Murree glass train and the upgrading of eight railway tracks.
Authorities are also preparing to launch 50,000 electric bikes for students. The initiative is expected to make affordable and eco-friendly transportation available to young people.
In another major step, the government plans to introduce 5,000 e-taxis for unemployed youth. Officials believe the project will create job opportunities while promoting cleaner mobility solutions.

Officials say these initiatives are aimed at offering citizens safer and more efficient travel options. The projects are also expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve the overall quality of public transport.
