Punjab launches AI hub to detect threats earlier
Punjab has become the first province in Pakistan to establish an Artificial Intelligence Hub to focus on security and intelligence.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Center (PIFTAC) and officially launched the new system.

AI system to issue early warnings
The PIFTAC system will provide digital alerts to district coordination committees.
Officials will be able to receive information about possible security problems and take action earlier.
The Artificial Intelligence Hub is also expected to help reduce response times during terrorism-related incidents and other security emergencies.
Maryam Nawaz said the real achievement would be stopping an incident before it happens.
“Controlling an incident before it occurs would be the real success,” she said.
Maryam Nawaz said law and order was as important as development projects.
She said roads and infrastructure would have little value if people remained worried about violence, theft and damage to their property.
Agencies to work as one unit
The Punjab AI Hub will bring information and security efforts together to improve coordination.
Maryam praised police, the Special Branch and other law-enforcement agencies for working as “one unit”.
She also thanked the Pakistan Army for its cooperation and appreciated Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Fayyaz Hussain Shah.

The Artificial Intelligence Hub is part of a wider plan to use technology in security operations.
The government has also strengthened joint check posts in vulnerable areas.
These posts have been equipped with bulletproof equipment, thermal cameras and night-vision cameras.
Crime prevention gets focus
Maryam Nawaz said crime in Punjab had declined by as much as 70%.
She said the government was now focusing more on preventing crimes instead of waiting for incidents to happen.
The Punjab AI Hub could support this approach by helping officials identify risks and respond more quickly.
She also said conditions in riverine areas had improved.
According to her, criminal activity has been brought under control and the state has regained its authority in these areas.
Action against corruption
Maryam also announced a zero-tolerance approach toward corruption.
She said cases would be pursued even when the amount involved was as little as Rs100, provided there was evidence.
A public helpline has been established for corruption complaints.
Body cameras have also been given to police officers to improve accountability and monitor their conduct.
The Artificial Intelligence Hub is part of the government’s wider push toward technology-based administration and security.
Public safety remains a priority
The chief minister also spoke about road safety, including helmet use, lane discipline and zebra crossings.
She said pedestrians also needed greater awareness of traffic rules.
She further highlighted crimes against women and children and called for stronger protection mechanisms.
Maryam Nawaz said protecting citizens and their property remained the government’s responsibility.
The Punjab AI Hub is expected to play a role in this broader security strategy by helping authorities act before threats become serious.
