(Web Desk): Punjab government finalizes rules for agricultural lease scheme offering 5 acres at minimal rent to boost farming and self-employment.

The Punjab government has finalized the rules and regulations for its flagship Apna Khet Apna Rozgar Scheme, aimed at empowering farmers and creating self-employment opportunities.

Under the scheme, the government will lease agricultural land at an annual rent of Rs 1,000. The Board of Revenue Punjab has prepared a new policy detailing the allotment process for agricultural land. According to the documents, up to five acres of land will be leased for ten years strictly for cultivation purposes. Residential or commercial use of the land is strictly prohibited.

Beneficiaries must personally cultivate the land, and ownership rights will not be granted. The lease will be canceled if rent is unpaid for six months. Applications will be received online through the Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA) and designated offices, while allotments will be made via a computerized balloting system. Successful applicants will also receive development grants. Only one person per family is eligible, and government employees or previous beneficiaries are disqualified.

At the end of the lease period, the land must be returned to the government, and violations could result in repossession without compensation.

Officials believe the scheme will promote farming, support rural families, and provide a sustainable source of income for new farmers, making it a landmark initiative for self-employment in the province.
