(Web Desk): Punjab enforces new law ending second appeals in land partition cases, making DC decisions final.

The Board of Revenue Punjab has implemented a major legal reform in land matters, enforcing changes to the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1967 from April 9, 2026.

According to an official notification, an amendment in Section 161 has significantly altered the appeal process in land partition cases across the province. Under the new law, citizens will now be allowed to file only one appeal in such cases.

As per the revised rules, the first appeal will be heard directly by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the concerned district. Most importantly, the decision made by the DC will be considered final and binding, leaving no room for further appeals.

Previously, individuals had the option to file a second appeal before the Commissioner or Additional Commissioner. However, this right has now been completely abolished under the new amendment.

Officials say the move aims to reduce delays in land dispute cases, which often take years due to multiple appeal stages. By limiting the process to a single appeal, authorities hope to ensure faster resolution and reduce burden on higher administrative offices.

Legal experts believe this change could streamline the system but may also raise concerns among citizens who relied on multiple appeal options for justice.

The new amendment is now fully enforced across Punjab, and all pending and future land partition cases will be processed under this updated legal framework.

Citizens involved in land disputes have been advised to prepare their cases carefully, as the first decision will now carry final authority.
