Following the Punjab government's announcement to provide 100,000 electric bikes to students, the traffic police has directed licensing centres to make the process easier for male and female students.

The Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Punjab has instructed all Chief Traffic Officers and District Traffic Officers to provide dedicated facilities and simplify the driving licence process for students.

Recent coverage of the scheme has also highlighted dedicated licensing counters and free driving training facilities for students in Lahore.

Students can get licences faster

According to the e-bike scheme spokesperson, more than 222,000 motorcycle driving licences were issued across Punjab within eight days. More than 6,500 juvenile driving permits have also been issued during the current month.

Under the new arrangements, eligible students will be able to obtain their motorcycle learner and regular licences on the same day. This means students seeking an electric bike will not have to wait the usual 42 days after receiving a learner licence.

Driving licence required for e-bike scheme

A valid driving licence or learner permit is an important requirement for students applying for the Punjab e-bike scheme. Recent reports say the programme offers electric bikes to eligible students through subsidised financing, while driving training and safety facilities are also being expanded.

The traffic police has also urged students to complete proper safety training before riding. Officials said students should become confident and responsible drivers and follow traffic rules to ensure safer roads across Punjab.
