PM Shehbaz to attend Iran-US deal signing in Geneva

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the Iran-US deal signing in Geneva, as a ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and nuclear talks are expected.

Shehbaz Sharif is expected to travel to Geneva to attend the signing ceremony of the agreement between Iran and the United States, according to official sources. A high-level Pakistani delegation will also accompany him for the important event.

Sources said an initial memorandum of understanding will be signed in Geneva on Friday. After the signing, both countries are expected to continue negotiations for 60 days on Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief, and several other key issues.

According to Arab media reports, the initial agreement includes a halt to military operations on all fronts and the restoration of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. However, some US lawmakers have warned that differing interpretations of the agreement by both sides could lead to future disputes.

US President Donald Trump claimed that the agreement with Iran had been finalized and congratulated both sides on the development. He also announced that the US naval blockade on Iranian ports had been lifted and that global shipping activity was expected to resume.

Trump further said that oil supply routes would be restored and the Strait of Hormuz would reopen after the ceasefire agreement was signed on Friday. He added that efforts would also be made to remove mines from the strategic waterway under the agreement. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also said that a deal between the United States and Iran to end the war has been reached, describing it as an important step towards regional stability.
