The All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association has expressed uncertainty over the government’s newly announced petrol subsidy package. Association Chairman Humayun Khan said pump owners had not been informed about the mechanism for providing the Rs100 per-litre relief.

Khan said the lack of clarity could create disputes between customers and petrol pump owners at filling stations. He questioned how dealers would receive reimbursement for the subsidy amount after providing discounted fuel to eligible consumers.

General Secretary Nauman Butt also raised concerns over the implementation process. He said the government had announced the subsidy but had not explained how the money would be returned to petrol pump owners.

Relief announced for small vehicles

The government has announced a Rs100-per-litre fuel subsidy for motorcycles and vehicles with engines of up to 800cc. The subsidy is intended to provide relief to consumers using smaller vehicles amid high fuel costs.

The programme has already started in Islamabad, according to the information provided by the government. However, petrol pump owners are seeking further details about the payment and reimbursement process.

Concerns over implementation

The uncertainty comes as petrol dealers continue to raise concerns about changes in the fuel pricing system and their financial arrangements. Earlier, petrol pump owners had also called for clearer policies and consultation over fuel pricing mechanisms.

The latest development has placed the focus on how the subsidy will work at petrol stations. Clear implementation guidelines may be required to prevent confusion between consumers, dealers and the authorities.
