(Web Desk): Petrol prices in Pakistan may rise from February 1 as a working paper sent to OGRA proposes hikes in diesel, kerosene, and light diesel fuel rates across country.

Petrol prices in Pakistan are likely to increase from February 1, as the petroleum industry has submitted a working paper to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) proposing upward revisions in fuel rates for the next pricing cycle.

Although petrol prices have seen a minor reduction in recent weeks, initial calculations suggest that the relief may be short-lived. Market sources say that while petrol prices may remain relatively stable, other petroleum products—including diesel, kerosene, and light diesel oil (LDO)—are expected to witness significant increases.

According to preliminary estimates, petrol prices have recorded a slight decrease of 36 paise per litre. However, the proposed hikes in other fuels are likely to push overall fuel prices higher across the country.

Proposed Fuel Price Increases

Sources familiar with the working paper revealed the following proposed increases:

  • High-Speed Diesel (HSD): Rs 9.47 per litre
  • Kerosene Oil: Rs 3.45 per litre
  • Light Diesel Oil (LDO): Rs 7 per litre

The working paper containing these proposals has been formally submitted to OGRA, which will review the calculations and forward its recommendations to the federal government for final approval.

Government’s Role and Tax Levy Impact

The federal government retains the authority to adjust tax levies and petroleum taxes, which can significantly impact final fuel prices. Officials said that if the government opts to reduce the tax levy, the net increase in prices could be partially offset.

However, the final decision on petrol and diesel prices—including the implementation of any increase—will be made after approval by the Prime Minister.

Current Fuel Prices in Pakistan

As of January 16, 2026, the prevailing fuel prices in Pakistan are:

  • Petrol (Super): Rs 253.17 per litre
  • High-Speed Diesel: Rs 257.08 per litre

Any revision approved by the government will take effect from February 1, potentially adding further pressure on consumers already grappling with rising inflation and transportation costs.
