Currently, high-speed diesel is charged Rs75,41 per liter as petroleum levy, while petrol has Rs79,62 per liter petroleum levy plus Rs2,50 per liter climate support levy. Both petrol and diesel also carry a 10 percent customs duty.
The Petroleum Division recently issued a notification confirming that petrol will stay at Rs253,17 per liter and high-speed diesel at Rs257,08 per liter, despite earlier reports suggesting a possible reduction.
Earlier news had hinted at a Rs4,59 per liter drop in petrol and a Rs2,70 per liter decrease in high-speed diesel, while furnace oil and light diesel prices were also expected to reduce slightly.
Minister Malik stressed that these taxes and levies are part of the legal framework and contribute to government revenue, while keeping fuel supply and pricing under close monitoring.
