Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene Prices Jump as Pump Owners Threaten Strike
Petrol, diesel and kerosene prices have increased in Pakistan, with kerosene witnessing a massive jump of more than Rs34 per litre, triggering concerns among consumers and strong opposition from petrol pump owners.
According to a notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the price of kerosene has been increased by Rs34.33 per litre. The new price has been fixed at Rs276.66 per litre, compared to the previous rate of Rs242.33 per litre.
The government has also raised the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel. Petrol has become costlier by Rs5.44 per litre, taking the new price to Rs316.15 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel has seen a sharp increase of Rs31.05 per litre, pushing its new rate to Rs354.35 per litre.
Officials said the revised petroleum prices will remain effective from July 18 to July 20. The latest increase comes amid rising international oil prices and growing concerns over inflationary pressures in the country.
Meanwhile, the All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association has strongly criticized the government's decision, particularly reports regarding daily changes in fuel prices. The association rejected the policy and warned that a nationwide strike could be announced if the decision is not withdrawn.
Association representatives said nearly 15,000 petrol pump owners were not consulted before the move was made. They described the policy as impractical and urged authorities to review it immediately.
Vice Chairman Nauman Ali Butt called on the government to engage all stakeholders, including oil marketing companies and petroleum dealers, before implementing any new pricing mechanism.
