Pakistani mountaineer’s body found on Broad Peak after avalanche

Sohel Sakhi belonged to Hunza and was among the mountaineers affected by the deadly avalanche. According to sources, his body will be transported from the Broad Peak base camp to Skardu by helicopter.
The recovery has brought a tragic end to the search for the missing mountaineer, whose disappearance had raised concerns following the avalanche. Further arrangements for the transportation of his body are expected after it reaches Skardu.
Avalanche leaves 10 mountaineers missing
The avalanche struck Broad Peak around 15 days ago, leaving 10 mountaineers missing. Search and recovery efforts were launched after the incident, with teams and porters continuing their efforts to trace the climbers.
The difficult terrain and harsh mountain conditions have made the search operation challenging. Broad Peak, located in the Karakoram range, is among the world’s highest mountains and attracts climbers from Pakistan and other countries.
Bodies of climbers recovered after avalanche
Before the recovery of Sakhi’s body, the bodies of seven mountaineers had already been recovered following the avalanche.
The recovered climbers included five Nepali nationals, according to the available information. The recovery of Sakhi’s body brings the number of bodies recovered after the disaster to eight. Search efforts for the remaining missing climbers are continuing.
Search continues for remaining climbers
Rescue and search teams are continuing their efforts to locate those who remain missing. The operation is being carried out under difficult conditions, with the mountainous terrain creating major challenges for search teams.

Porters and other personnel travelling along the trekking route are also assisting in efforts to locate the missing climbers. Authorities and rescue teams are expected to continue the search as weather and ground conditions allow.

The latest tragedy once again highlights the dangers faced by climbers attempting expeditions in Pakistan’s high mountain ranges. Despite these risks, Pakistan’s northern mountains continue to attract local and international mountaineers every year.
