Pakistan steps up diplomacy as Mohsin Naqvi prepares Tehran visit
Mohsin Naqvi is expected to visit Tehran today to deliver an important message to the Iranian leadership as Pakistan continues to support diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran, according to sources. Sources said Naqvi is scheduled to hold meetings with senior Iranian officials during his visit and convey a key message related to ongoing regional and diplomatic developments.
The expected visit comes at a time when efforts are continuing to advance dialogue between Washington and Tehran, with several countries encouraging diplomatic solutions to regional tensions. Before his departure, Mohsin Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the upcoming visit and its diplomatic objectives.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reportedly provided guidance regarding Naqvi’s discussions with the Iranian leadership. The two leaders also exchanged views on recent developments in US-Iran talks and the broader regional situation.
Sources said the interior minister also briefed the prime minister on Pakistan’s internal security situation and ongoing measures aimed at maintaining law and order across the country. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump recently said that Washington did not require a deal with Iran to gain access to enriched uranium.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump stated that the United States could obtain it if necessary, but added that there was currently no reason to do so. Trump also said he did not plan to meet Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. However, he added that such a meeting could become possible if Washington and Tehran successfully reached an agreement.
The US president further stated that he would be “honoured” to meet the Iranian leader if a deal were reached, adding that he would approach such a meeting with respect. Diplomatic observers believe Pakistan’s engagement reflects its interest in regional stability and its support for dialogue over confrontation. The Tehran visit is being closely watched as efforts continue to reduce tensions and encourage negotiations between the United States and Iran.
