Pakistan pays tribute to Fatima Jinnah on 59th death anniversary
The 59th death anniversary of Madar-e-Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah is being observed across Pakistan with great respect and reverence. People from all walks of life are paying tribute to her remarkable services to the country and the nation.
Fatima Jinnah played a vital role in Pakistan’s independence movement. After the death of his wife in 1929, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah received unwavering support from his sister, who stood by him throughout the struggle for independence.
She worked alongside her brother and united women across the subcontinent, encouraging them to actively participate in the movement for a separate homeland for Muslims. Her efforts strengthened the campaign that ultimately led to the creation of Pakistan.
In 1947, Fatima Jinnah established the Women’s Relief Committee to help refugees arriving in the newly created country. The organisation later became the foundation of the All Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA). She also played a significant role in the rehabilitation and settlement of Muhajirs.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Pakistan Movement, Fatima Jinnah was honoured with the title of Madar-e-Millat, meaning “Mother of the Nation.” She remained committed to democracy and public service throughout her life.
In 1964, at the age of 71, she returned to active politics and contested the presidential election against military ruler Ayub Khan, emerging as a powerful symbol of democratic values in Pakistan.
Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah was born on July 31, 1893, in Karachi and passed away on July 9, 1967. Decades after her death, she continues to be remembered for her courage, dedication to civil rights, and lifelong service to Pakistan.
