Jaffar Express suspended amid security concerns
Pakistan Railways has suspended the Jaffar Express service operating between Quetta and Peshawar due to the prevailing security situation, officials said on Wednesday.
According to railway sources, the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and railway staff amid concerns over law and order in certain areas along the route.
Officials said the Jaffar Express scheduled to depart from Quetta for Peshawar will not operate today. Meanwhile, the train traveling from Peshawar toward Quetta will be stopped at Jacobabad and will not continue its full journey.
Railway authorities stated that passenger safety remains the top priority and that services will be restored once the security situation improves and clearance is received from the relevant authorities.
The temporary suspension has affected hundreds of travelers who rely on the long-distance train service connecting Balochistan with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country.
To reduce inconvenience, Pakistan Railways has announced that passengers holding valid tickets for the suspended service will receive full refunds. Travelers have been advised to contact railway booking offices and information centers for details regarding refunds and alternative travel arrangements.
The Jaffar Express is one of the country's key rail services, linking major cities and providing an affordable travel option for thousands of passengers every month.
No timeline has been announced for the resumption of the service. Railway officials said operations will remain under review and future decisions will depend on security assessments and recommendations from law enforcement agencies.
