ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Pakistan has approved a nationwide online system for international driving permits, allowing citizens to apply digitally through the National Police Bureau while simplifying the application process.

Online system to simplify the application process

According to the interior minister, the new system will introduce a uniform procedure for issuing international driving permits across the country. The online process is expected to reduce paperwork, shorten waiting times, and eliminate unnecessary visits to government offices.

Officials said applicants will be able to complete the required process more conveniently through the digital platform. The government believes the new system will improve service delivery and increase efficiency.

Police clearance certificates will also go online

Along with international driving permits, the government will also introduce a uniform online system for police clearance certificates. Mohsin Naqvi said the National Police Bureau will issue police clearance certificates through its online portal.

Citizens will be able to apply from their homes without visiting government offices. Officials said the digital service will reduce delays and make the process more transparent and user-friendly.

National Police Bureau to play key role

The National Police Bureau will manage the online platform for both international driving permits and police clearance certificates. Officials said the bureau is being strengthened to improve public services through modern digital solutions.

The government aims to make the NPB a more active and efficient institution capable of providing faster services nationwide. The online platform is expected to improve coordination and standardise procedures across the country.

The government focuses on digital reforms

The interior minister said promoting digital governance remains one of the government’s priorities. He added that technology-driven services can save citizens time while improving transparency and efficiency.

Officials informed the minister about efforts to modernise the institution and improve public service delivery. The government said these reforms are aimed at building a more efficient and technology-driven policing system.

Tribute paid to police martyrs

The meeting began with tributes to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty on Youm-i-Police Shuhada. Participants honoured the sacrifices made by police officers and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening law enforcement institutions.

Officials said the contributions of police martyrs remain an important part of the country’s policing history. The government also reiterated its support for initiatives that improve the welfare and professional capacity of police personnel.

What citizens can expect

Once implemented, the online system is expected to make it easier for Pakistanis to obtain international driving permits and police clearance certificates. Applicants will benefit from a standardised process, fewer office visits, and faster document processing.

Officials said further details regarding the launch date and application procedure will be announced through official channels. Citizens have been advised to rely only on official government announcements for accurate and up-to-date information.
