Why November 9 Is Important
Allama Muhammad Iqbal was born on November 9, 1877. He is widely regarded as Pakistan’s national poet because of his contributions to Urdu and Persian literature, philosophy and Muslim political thought.
His writings encouraged Muslims to pursue knowledge, confidence and unity. His ideas also influenced the political thinking that contributed to the demand for a separate homeland.
The Pakistan public holiday allows citizens to remember his work through poetry recitations, educational programmes, speeches and literary events.
