Pakistan Air Force Day is being observed across the country with national pride as the nation pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of PAF personnel who defended the country’s airspace. The day honours the force’s historic role in the 1965 war and its continued commitment to protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty.

MM Alam’s historic 1965 war feat

The 1965 war remains a defining chapter in Pakistan Air Force history. PAF ace Muhammad Mahmood Alam, popularly known as M.M. Alam, shot down five Indian Air Force Hawker Hunter fighters in less than a minute, with four reportedly destroyed within around 30 seconds.

His remarkable performance became one of the most remembered aerial combat achievements associated with Pakistan’s 1965 war campaign.

Rashid Minhas remembered with tribute

A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was also held at the grave of Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed in Karachi. Air Officer Commanding Southern Air Command Air Vice Marshal Akhtar Imran Saduzai attended the ceremony, offered Fateha and laid a floral wreath on behalf of the PAF chief.

A smartly turned-out PAF contingent paid tribute to Rashid Minhas, who sacrificed his life while defending the country. His supreme sacrifice earned him the Nishan-e-Haider and secured his place among Pakistan’s most honoured military heroes.
