PakID app: NADRA makes taxpayer biometric verification easier

The facility is expected to launch in the first week of September 2026, subject to final approval.

The National Database and Registration Authority is developing the service for individual taxpayers, sole proprietors and overseas Pakistanis. It will allow eligible users to complete biometric checks remotely instead of visiting a verification centre.

PakID app to simplify the process

NADRA says the new feature has already been developed and is designed to make annual biometric verification easier. The service could be especially useful for Pakistanis living abroad who face difficulties completing the process in person.

The authority is working with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to officially accept PakID biometric verification as an alternative to the existing e-Sahulat process. If FBR approves it, taxpayers will have another digital way to meet their biometric requirement.

Help for overseas taxpayers

The move follows concerns from the Faisalabad Chamber of Small Traders & Small Industry about problems faced by individual taxpayers and sole proprietors. Overseas Pakistanis have particularly faced difficulties in completing their annual biometric verification.

Under the proposed system, eligible taxpayers would be able to complete the verification from anywhere in the world. This could reduce the need for physical visits and make tax compliance more convenient.

Launch still not final

NADRA says the planned launch in the first week of September is tentative. FBR still needs to formally approve PakID as an alternative verification channel.

The new system could make a routine tax requirement much easier, especially for overseas Pakistanis. However, the service cannot be treated as fully available until FBR gives its formal approval.
