Pakistan's energy regulator, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), has significantly increased LNG prices in Pakistan, just a day after announcing a hike in LPG prices. The latest revision is expected to increase energy costs for consumers and industries during August.

According to an official notification, OGRA has increased Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) prices by up to 34.55%, with rates rising by as much as $6.45 per MMBtu.

For Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), the LNG price has increased by $6.31 per MMBtu, taking the new price to $25.84 per MMBtu.

Meanwhile, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) will receive LNG at a revised price of $25.08 per MMBtu after an increase of $6.45 per MMBtu.

LPG prices also increased

The LNG price hike comes just one day after OGRA raised LPG prices for August. Under the new notification, LPG prices were increased by Rs12.89 per kilogram, setting the new official rate at Rs254.32 per kg.

The price of a standard domestic LPG cylinder has also been revised upward to Rs3,000.92. The new LPG prices are effective throughout August.

Consumers likely to face higher energy costs

The latest increases in LNG and LPG prices are expected to put additional financial pressure on households, businesses, and industries already dealing with rising living costs. Higher LNG prices could also increase operational expenses for industries that rely on imported gas, while higher LPG rates will directly affect domestic consumers, particularly in areas without access to natural gas pipelines.

Energy experts say the revised prices reflect changes in international LNG markets and import costs, although consumers are likely to feel the impact through higher fuel and utility expenses in the coming weeks.
