The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced that citizens can now access their digital identity card through the official PakID mobile app.

The digital CNIC has the same legal status, validity and evidentiary value as the corresponding physical identity document, according to NADRA. Citizens can therefore use the digital version for identity verification where required.

PakID app offers digital identity access

Citizens can access the service through the Digital ID section of the PakID app. Users need to open the Digital ID option, submit their request and wait for approval.

Once approved, the digital identity becomes available through the app and can be accessed directly on a mobile phone.

NADRA’s digital identity platform is designed to reduce the need to carry physical documents. The authority says its PakID system provides secure access to identity-related services and digital credentials.

Digital ID can replace physical card

The move means citizens may not need to carry their physical CNIC for every identity verification requirement. NADRA has previously clarified that government departments, regulated institutions and other organisations should recognise its digital identity credentials under the applicable regulations.
