(Web Desk): Muharram 9 is being observed across Pakistan, with major processions taking place under strict security arrangements.

Mourners across the country are commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, who embraced martyrdom in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. Religious gatherings and processions are being held in major cities with enhanced security and traffic management plans.

The central mourning procession in Peshawar started from Imambargah Hussainia Hall at around 10am. Thousands of mourners joined the procession to pay tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala.

Authorities implemented special security measures along the procession route. Multiple security agencies were deployed to ensure a peaceful environment.

In Islamabad, the central procession is scheduled to begin from Markazi Imambargah Asna-e-Ashri. Security personnel have been deployed at key points to maintain order and facilitate mourners.

Karachi’s central procession is set to start from Nishtar Park and conclude at Imambargah Hussainia Iranian. Authorities have also introduced special traffic arrangements to manage the large gathering.

Karachi Traffic Police have announced alternative routes for commuters due to road closures during Muharram processions. Several major roads have been closed to ensure the safe movement of mourners.

M.A. Jinnah Road has been closed from Gurumandir to Tower. Additional restrictions have been imposed on routes connecting Jamshed Road, Gurumandir and Bahadur Yar Jang Road during specific hours.

Karachi Police have deployed 20,181 personnel across the city for Muharram 9 security duties. The deployment includes 1,329 traffic police officers assigned to manage traffic flow.

According to officials, 6,843 personnel have been specifically assigned to the central procession. Additional reserve forces, snipers and specialized security teams have also been stationed along the route.

Police in Peshawar have deployed 12,000 personnel to protect processions and religious gatherings. The security force includes city police, rapid response units, bomb disposal teams and women police officers.

Authorities have established a three-layer security system around procession routes. Special observation points have also been set up on high-rise buildings to monitor activities.

Around 1,000 traffic personnel have been deployed in Peshawar to keep traffic moving smoothly. Authorities are also using advanced monitoring systems to oversee security operations.

Bomb disposal units and sniffer dogs are conducting sweeps of imambargahs, procession routes and gathering venues. Plainclothes officers have also been deployed at sensitive locations.

Police officials said 43,317 personnel have been assigned security duties across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during Muharram. Section 144 has also been imposed in various districts to help maintain law and order.

According to police data, 614 imambargahs are functioning across the province. Of these, 127 have been classified as highly sensitive, 262 as sensitive and 225 as normal.

Authorities expect 907 Muharram processions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Among them, 286 have been categorized as highly sensitive, 190 as sensitive and 431 as normal.

Religious gatherings and processions are also being monitored through the Safe City camera network. Officials say these measures are aimed at ensuring peaceful observance of Muharram.

The large-scale security deployment shows the importance authorities place on maintaining peace during Muharram. Multiple layers of protection have been introduced to prevent any security concerns.

Traffic plans and surveillance systems are also playing a key role in managing large crowds. The arrangements reflect a coordinated effort to ensure safe and smooth observance of Muharram 9 across the country.
