The investigation into the Mir Raza Ali death has taken a dramatic turn after the late Karachi businessman's father filed an application in court seeking the exhumation of his son's body for a fresh post-mortem examination.

The request comes as the family continues to reject the initial police investigation and post-mortem report, insisting that Mir Raza Ali was murdered and that his death is being wrongly portrayed as a suicide.

Father challenges police investigation

The application was submitted by Mir Hussain Ali, the father of the deceased, before a judicial magistrate in Karachi.

In his plea, he argued that the police investigation conducted so far was inadequate and failed to establish the actual circumstances surrounding his son's death.

He requested the court to order the exhumation of the body so that a fresh post-mortem examination could be carried out by an independent medical team.

During the hearing, the prosecution did not oppose the request. After hearing arguments from both sides, the judicial magistrate reserved the verdict, which will determine whether the body can be exhumed for another forensic examination.

Family rejects suicide theory

Speaking to the media, Mir Hussain Ali firmly dismissed the possibility that his son had taken his own life.

He alleged that Mir Raza Ali had been murdered and claimed attempts were being made to present the case as suicide.

The grieving father also criticised what he described as a "media trial" against his family, saying the investigation should focus solely on uncovering the truth.

According to him, the original post-mortem examination was completed and the body was handed over to the family within an hour, raising concerns about whether the examination had been conducted thoroughly.

Father raises questions over injuries

Mir Hussain Ali claimed that the injuries found on his son's body did not support the suicide theory.

He alleged that Mir Raza Ali had suffered a gunshot wound from behind, arguing that such an injury would be inconsistent with self-inflicted harm.

The father further claimed that his son's face had been disfigured, saying the injuries suggested that the businessman may have been killed under circumstances different from those presented in the initial investigation.

He also described his son as a successful businessman who owned four shops and was his only child.

Police open to fresh post-mortem

Earlier, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Azad Khan said police had no objection if the family sought a fresh post-mortem through the courts.

He stated that the body could be exhumed if legal permission was granted, adding that investigators would cooperate with any judicial order.

Azad Khan also responded to comments made by Karachi Police Surgeon Dr Samia Syed, who questioned whether the findings in the post-mortem report matched photographs of the deceased.

According to the AIG, the original post-mortem report had been prepared by the relevant Medico-Legal Officer (MLO) rather than the police.

He further said Dr Samia's observations were based on photographs and that she had not personally examined the body.

Investigation remains under scrutiny

The Mir Raza Ali death case has attracted significant public attention, with the conflicting claims made by the family and officials placing the investigation under close scrutiny.

The court's decision on the exhumation request is expected to play a crucial role in determining whether a second forensic examination will be carried out.
