(Web Desk): Bahria Town founder Malik Riaz Hussain has appealed to Field Marshal Asim Munir and other senior officials to intervene over the seizure and auction of the company’s assets.

Founder warns of impact on development projects

Riaz argued that selling important Bahria Town assets at distressed prices could weaken the company’s ability to complete its development work.

He claimed that development projects worth around Rs372 billion have already been suspended because of the ongoing dispute. According to his appeal, the halted work includes housing schemes, public infrastructure, and utility projects.

He said the situation could also have wider consequences for people and businesses connected to Bahria Town.

Thousands of stakeholders could be affected

Riaz maintained that the dispute should not be treated as a private business matter because thousands of families have invested in Bahria Town projects. He said contractors, suppliers, employees, and financial institutions are also connected to the company’s operations.

According to the appeal, continued asset seizures and auctions could therefore affect a much wider group of people. Riaz called for the interests of investors, allottees, creditors, employees, and other stakeholders to be considered while resolving the dispute.

Riaz raises security concerns

The Bahria Town founder also raised allegations of threats and surveillance involving himself and his family.

Riaz claimed that he and members of his family received death threats and were subjected to surveillance. He said an FIR related to the alleged threats was initially registered but was later cancelled.

According to his account, the FIR was subsequently restored by the High Court. However, he claimed that no independent investigation had been completed and that the accused remained at large. These claims were made by Riaz in his appeal and have not been independently verified.

Family members allegedly faced intimidation

Riaz also claimed that members of his family faced unlawful detention, threats, and intimidation. He further alleged that his brother disappeared for several months before eventually being found in poor health.

The allegations form part of his broader appeal for intervention in the dispute. He argued that the situation has created serious concerns for his family as well as the wider Bahria Town business network.

Call for dialogue and legal settlement

Riaz urged the authorities to resolve the outstanding disputes through institutional dialogue and legal processes. He argued that a negotiated settlement could allow Bahria Town to continue meeting its financial and legal obligations.

He also said such an approach could help protect the interests of the state and other stakeholders. According to Riaz, resolving the disputes through dialogue would be preferable to continued attachment and disposal of company assets.

Bahria Town says it is not seeking immunity

In his appeal, Riaz said Bahria Town was not asking to be exempted from the law. Instead, he called for the company’s legal disputes to be resolved through due process.

He argued that court proceedings and other legal mechanisms should be allowed to determine the outstanding matters. The appeal comes as the dispute over Bahria Town’s assets continues to attract attention because of the scale of the properties and the number of people connected to its projects.

Why the dispute matters

The controversy could have consequences beyond Bahria Town itself if large-scale development projects remain suspended. Delays could affect construction workers, contractors, suppliers, investors, and families waiting for housing-related projects to progress.

The disposal of major assets could also affect the company’s ability to generate funds and complete its outstanding commitments, according to Riaz. At the same time, any legal claims involving the company will ultimately depend on proceedings before the relevant courts and authorities.
