LAHORE (Web Desk): Motorway M-3 closure has been announced between Faizpur and Jaranwala due to dense fog, as authorities take steps to prevent accidents.

The Motorway M-3 closure comes after poor visibility made driving conditions dangerous. Officials have advised motorists to avoid unnecessary journeys until the weather improves.

Why has Motorway M-3 been closed?

According to Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed, the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to protect passengers, vehicles and public property.

Dense fog in Punjab can make it difficult for drivers to see vehicles, road signs and obstacles ahead. Even a short loss of visibility can increase the risk of serious accidents, particularly when vehicles are travelling at high speeds.

The police said motorway closures are sometimes necessary to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of road users. Motorists have been asked to cooperate with officials and avoid entering closed sections.

Motorway Police issue important travel advice

The Central Region spokesperson has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy conditions. People who need to travel have been advised to plan their journeys during daylight hours.

According to the advisory, the safest travel window is generally between 10 AM and 6 PM, when visibility is expected to be better.

Drivers have also been instructed to reduce their speed and maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead. Following lane discipline is equally important, as sudden lane changes can lead to accidents in low visibility.

Motorists should avoid unnecessary overtaking and sudden braking. These actions can be especially dangerous when drivers cannot clearly see the road ahead.

Check your vehicle before travelling in fog

Motorway Police have advised drivers to use fog lights and make sure their headlights, rear lights and windscreen wipers are working properly.

Drivers should also check their vehicles before starting a journey. Properly functioning lights and wipers can help improve visibility and make vehicles more noticeable to others on the road.

If visibility becomes extremely poor, motorists should not continue driving. Instead, they should pull over at a safe location and wait until conditions improve.

They should avoid stopping in the middle of the road or in a place that could put other vehicles at risk.

When will the motorway reopen?

Motorists travelling on the Faizpur to Jaranwala motorway section have been advised to follow official Motorway Police updates before setting out. The closure is intended to remain a safety measure until visibility improves enough for safe movement.

The Motorway M-3 closure may cause delays for commuters, so travellers should check road conditions and alternative routes before leaving home.
