The government has announced a major increase in light diesel oil (LDO) price in Pakistan, raising the rate by Rs22.03 per litre in the latest fuel price revision.
According to the official notification, the new price of light diesel oil has been set at Rs365.62 per litre, effective immediately. The increase comes amid continued adjustments in petroleum product prices.
Continued Surge in Kerosene Oil Prices
Alongside LDO, kerosene oil prices in Pakistan have also seen repeated hikes in recent weeks.
- Latest increase: Rs4.66 per litre
- Previous price: Rs428.74 per litre
- New price: Rs433.40 per litre
Last week alone, kerosene witnessed a massive surge of Rs70.73 per litre, raising concerns among consumers nationwide.
Petrol and Diesel Prices Remain Unchanged
Despite rising fuel costs, the government has kept petrol and diesel prices unchanged for the current week.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that authorities decided not to pass on the full burden of global fuel price increases to the public.
- Petrol price maintained
- Diesel price maintained
- Government absorbing financial pressure
Officials revealed that a significant increase was proposed earlier, but the government chose to provide relief by keeping prices stable.

Impact on Consumers and Economy
Experts warn that the increase in light diesel oil and kerosene prices will significantly impact:
- Rural households
- Low-income families
- Small businesses relying on diesel fuel
Kerosene and LDO are widely used for cooking, heating, and transportation in remote areas, making price hikes particularly burdensome.
Growing Concerns Over Fuel Affordability
The continuous rise in fuel prices is increasing financial stress for citizens already dealing with inflation. Analysts believe:
- Energy costs will rise further
- Household expenses will increase
- Economic pressure on vulnerable groups will intensify
The situation has sparked public concern over fuel affordability and long-term energy stability.
