(Web Desk): LESCO has introduced a new electricity purchase tariff for solar net metering users, offering Rs 25.32 per unit credit on exported units following NEPRA’s latest directive.

LESCO has implemented a revised electricity purchase tariff under its net metering project, offering consumers Rs 25.32 per unit credit for the electricity they export to the grid.

The company’s Directorate of Information Technology issued a letter to the Customer Services Director to adjust billing in line with the new tariff, which will be applied starting this month. LESCO has instructed its billing department to provide credit to consumers for all units exported under this revised rate.

This move follows NEPRA’s recent decision to further reduce the purchase price of electricity from solar users. NEPRA issued directives to LESCO and other distribution companies to implement the new tariff, reflecting a decrease of Rs 0.66 per unit compared to the previous rate.

Officials said that the new rates aim to streamline the net metering system while balancing consumer benefits and grid management. Solar users will now see adjusted credits in their monthly bills, encouraging continued investment in renewable energy solutions.

Experts suggest that with such incentives, more households and businesses are likely to adopt solar systems, boosting Pakistan’s renewable energy footprint and reducing pressure on the national grid.

The new tariff reflects a broader trend of revising electricity purchase rates across the country, ensuring fair compensation for solar energy contributors while maintaining regulatory compliance.
