The District Education Authority (DEA) in Lahore has announced plans to auction rooftops of government schools for Basant 2026 events, aiming to manage crowds and ensure a safer, organized celebration.
Preparations for the city’s iconic Basant kite-flying festival are underway, with the district administration and Walled City authorities actively involved in planning. Officials confirmed that the auction will commence after receiving approval from the Secretary of Education.

Under the proposed plan, rooftops of multiple government schools, including Government Victoria Girls High School, Government High School Delhi Gate, Government Boys and Girls High School Sheranwala Gate, Government School Mochi Gate, Government School Kabli Mahal, Government Girls High School Rang Mahal, Government Krishna High School Rang Mahal, Government Model High School Takiya Sadhwan, Government School Sheesha Moti Bazaar, Government High School CDGL Bhati Gate, Asifa Model School Sheranwala Gate, Government High School Chuna Mandi, and Government High School Gowalmandi, will be made available for Basant festivities.
Officials also stated that the Lahore administration is reviewing a proposal to declare four days of public holidays during the first week of February. These holidays aim to reduce traffic congestion, manage crowds, and allow safer celebrations across the city.

Authorities emphasized that the initiative is part of broader efforts to organize Basant 2026 in a controlled and secure environment, balancing cultural traditions with public safety concerns. Rooftop auctions are expected to provide residents with safe vantage points while ensuring that celebrations comply with safety regulations.
