(Web Desk): Lahore gears up for Basant with strict safety rules, mandating safety rods on motorcycles and limiting kite flying to licensed operators.

Lahore Commissioner Marryam Khan has announced a major safety drive ahead of the three-day Basant festival, declaring that 1 million safety rods will be installed on motorcycles to protect riders and pedestrians.

She said no motorcycle will be allowed on Lahore roads during Basant without safety rods, making compliance mandatory for all riders across the city.

The announcement came during a high-level meeting with six kite-flying associations, including the All Pakistan Kite Flying Association, along with senior police and district administration officials. The meeting focused on finalising security, regulation, and enforcement plans for the festival.

According to the commissioner, kite flying will be allowed only within Lahore District from February 6 to 8. Early kite flying has been strictly banned, and any violation will invite immediate legal action.

She added that kite-flying material can only be manufactured within Lahore and sold locally between February 1 and 8. All manufacturers, traders, and sellers must register online through the ‘e-Biz’ app. Licences will be issued within three days, and only registered businesses holding valid NOC certificates will be allowed to operate.

Strict action will be taken against violators under the Kite Flying Ordinance 2025, the commissioner warned.

The Lahore District Administration has already registered 204 cases related to illegal kite flying, showing zero tolerance for violations.

To ensure road safety, special camps will be set up within the next 24 to 48 hours. These camps will install safety rods on 50,000 to 60,000 motorcycles daily at nearly 100 locations across the city.

Officials said the measures aim to allow citizens to enjoy Basant while ensuring maximum public safety.
