LAHORE (Web Desk): Lahore traffic police have identified a car seen performing dangerous drifting stunts in a social media video, warning that drivers involved in reckless driving will face legal action as part of an ongoing crackdown.

Lahore traffic police have identified a car allegedly involved in drifting and reckless driving after reviewing a video shared on social media.

According to a traffic police spokesperson, the footage shows a driver performing dangerous stunts on the road. Such actions can put the driver, passengers, and other road users at risk. The identification comes as Lahore traffic police continue a crackdown on drifting, wheelies and other forms of dangerous driving.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Abdul Rahim Shirazi has directed officials to take action against drivers who violate traffic laws and endanger public safety. The latest case also highlights how videos shared online can help authorities identify vehicles and investigate dangerous driving incidents.

Reckless drivers face cases and possible arrests

CTO Abdul Rahim Shirazi said police would register cases against people who put lives at risk through reckless driving and dangerous stunts. He said officials would work to identify vehicles involved in such activities and take legal action against those responsible.

Police may also arrest drivers found to be involved in offences, according to the warning issued by the traffic authorities. The crackdown is aimed at discouraging drivers from treating public roads as places for stunts or risky driving.

Drifting and other dangerous manoeuvres can cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles. They may also lead to collisions, injuries and damage to property. Traffic police have urged motorists to follow road safety rules and avoid behaviour that could endanger others.

CTO urges parents to guide young drivers

Shirazi also urged parents to encourage their children to use their skills and energy in positive and constructive activities.

His appeal comes amid concerns about young people taking part in risky driving activities for entertainment or to record videos for social media. Dangerous stunts may appear exciting in online clips, but they can have serious consequences when performed on public roads.

Parents can help reduce these risks by discussing road safety with young drivers and encouraging them to follow traffic laws. The CTO’s message also stresses the importance of responsible driving habits at home and in the wider community.

Citizens asked to report drifting and wheelies

The Lahore traffic police chief has asked citizens to report incidents involving drifting, wheelies and other dangerous driving activities.

Residents can send videos of such incidents to the traffic police WhatsApp number 03225638888, according to the information provided by the department.

Shirazi said the reports could help officials identify vehicles and take legal action against people who break traffic laws. Videos shared by the public may provide useful information about an incident, including the vehicle involved and the nature of the alleged offence.

However, authorities must assess the available evidence before taking action against any individual. Citizens should avoid putting themselves in danger to record these incidents. They should also avoid confronting drivers who are performing risky stunts.

Why drifting and reckless driving are dangerous

Drifting involves deliberately making a vehicle slide while turning or manoeuvring. When performed on public roads, it can place other motorists, pedestrians and nearby residents at risk.

Wheelies and other stunts can also reduce a driver’s control over a vehicle. A sudden movement, an unexpected obstacle or another vehicle entering the road can quickly lead to an accident. Public roads are shared spaces where drivers must consider the safety of everyone around them.

Even when a driver believes a road is clear, another road user may appear unexpectedly. Dangerous manoeuvres leave less time to respond to such situations. The traffic police crackdown aims to discourage these activities and reinforce the message that road safety rules apply to all motorists.

Social media videos can help identify violations

The latest incident shows how footage shared on social media can draw attention to possible traffic violations.

When a video contains clear details of a vehicle or incident, it may help authorities begin an investigation. Police can then review the material and determine whether further action is needed.

However, a video alone should not be treated as proof of guilt without proper assessment. Authorities need to establish the facts and follow the relevant legal process. Members of the public can support road safety by reporting dangerous behaviour through official channels rather than sharing unverified allegations.
