Residents of Lahore are likely to enjoy a long weekend in the first week of February as authorities consider additional holidays to coincide with Basant celebrations. Sources say the provincial administration is evaluating the possibility of giving a four-day break to the citizens of the city.
Currently, February 5 is already a public holiday for Kashmir Day, and February 6–7 fall on Saturday and Sunday, the regular weekend. Officials are reportedly considering declaring Friday, February 4, as an extra holiday. If approved, Lahoris will have a continuous four-day break from February 4 to 7, allowing ample time for festival preparations and celebrations.
Authorities stated that the additional holiday aims to ensure Basant festivities are safe, well-organized, and enjoyable. It is also expected to help reduce traffic congestion in the city and limit unnecessary motorcycle movement on roads, which often increases the risk of accidents during the festival.
