(Web Desk): Lahore traffic authorities have made side-view mirrors mandatory for motorcyclists and launched an awareness drive to improve road safety.

Lahore traffic authorities have made side-view mirrors mandatory for motorcyclists and launched an awareness campaign to promote safer riding across the city.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi distributed side-view mirrors among motorcyclists on Mall Road as part of the campaign. He also directed all circle officers to brief and educate motorcycle riders about the importance of using mirrors.

The CTO said side-view mirrors are essential for safe driving because they allow riders to monitor traffic approaching from behind, particularly when changing lanes or making turns.

He urged motorcyclists to ensure their bikes are equipped with properly positioned mirrors and to use them regularly while riding on busy roads.

According to the traffic authorities, Lahore has more than 8.2 million registered vehicles, including over 6.1 million motorcycles. The large number of motorcycles makes road safety a major concern for traffic management authorities.

Shirazi said strict and necessary measures would be taken to improve the safety of motorcyclists. He stressed that awareness and education would remain an important part of the campaign alongside enforcement of traffic rules.

Traffic officials are expected to continue visiting different areas and engaging with riders to encourage compliance with the new requirement.

The campaign comes as traffic congestion continues to pose challenges for commuters in Lahore, where motorcycles are widely used for daily travel.

Authorities believe the use of side-view mirrors can help riders identify vehicles approaching from behind and reduce risks during lane changes. Motorcyclists have also been advised to remain alert, follow traffic rules and avoid sudden movements on busy roads.

The traffic police said the initiative is aimed at encouraging safer riding habits and reducing preventable road accidents involving motorcycles.
