Lahore's Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Abdul Rahim Sherazi has directed traffic police officers and wardens to intensify action against traffic law violators. A formal notice has been issued to subordinate staff instructing them to speed up challan issuance across the city.

Challans decline compared to last year, CTO notes

The notice pointed out that the number of fines issued by traffic police has dropped compared to last year, prompting officials to increase enforcement speed.

According to the CTO, challans have decreased for violations including driving without a license, underage drivers, fitness certificate breaches, and smoke-emitting vehicles. Wardens have been given a 15-day deadline to meet set targets, with departmental action threatened against those who fail to comply.

Stricter e-challan recovery system proposed

Separately, a proposal has surfaced to tighten the recovery mechanism for outstanding e-challan dues. CTO Sherazi has written formal letters to the DIG Traffic Punjab and the Punjab Information Technology Board regarding the matter.

Government services may be linked to fine payment

Under the proposal, access to certain government services for e-challan defaulters could be made conditional on clearing dues. These include issuance of duplicate ID cards, passport renewal, vehicle sale and purchase, transfer registration, and select services at police facilitation centers.
