KP Police Salaries: Up to 120% security allowance proposed for officers
Salary increase proposal sent to governor
A summary proposing higher salaries and additional resources for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has been prepared and sent to Governor Faisal Karim Kundi.
Under the proposal, police personnel in southern districts and merged districts would receive a security challenge allowance equal to 120% of their basic salary.
Personnel serving in other settled districts could receive an allowance of 100%, while those in the Hazara region would be offered 75%.
The proposed rates would vary according to the security challenges faced by police personnel in different areas.
Billions required for allowances
According to the summary, the proposed security challenge allowance would create additional monthly expenses of more than Rs5.15 billion.
The summary states that KP Police have been fighting terrorism for the past three decades. It argues that despite their sacrifices, police salaries and allowances remain lower than those offered to police forces in other provinces.
The proposed increase is intended to address this gap and recognise the challenges faced by officers working in high-risk areas.
However, the allowances are still part of a proposal. The summary would need to be considered by the relevant authorities before any increase could take effect.
New weapons and modern equipment also proposed
The summary also seeks additional funds to improve the operational capacity of KP Police.
The requested equipment includes submachine guns, rifles, bulletproof jackets, ballistic helmets, drones, thermal weapon sights, binoculars, anti-drone systems and armoured vehicles.
These items are intended to strengthen police operations and improve protection for personnel working in dangerous conditions.
According to sources, more than Rs13.87 billion in additional funds have been requested for police equipment and purchases.

Separate funds requested for settled and merged districts
For the 2026–27 financial year, the summary requests more than Rs11.16 billion for equipment purchases in settled districts and over Rs3.35 billion for merged districts.
The proposal also seeks funding for ongoing development projects and other police schemes.
A total of Rs12.22 billion has been requested for development projects.
These additional funds would support police infrastructure, equipment and other operational needs, alongside the proposed increase in allowances.
Police cite shortage of resources
The summary argues that KP Police continue to face serious security challenges while dealing with limited resources.
It states that shortages of weapons, protective equipment and modern surveillance tools affect the force’s ability to respond to threats.
The proposed funding aims to address these shortages while improving the safety and working conditions of police personnel.
